Pastor's Pen - O Give Thanks Unto The Lord
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good…” Psalm 118:1
Isn’t one of the most aggravating things you deal with in life ungrateful, unappreciative, and unthankful people? You do something for them and you get no thanks, no smile and no gratitude. It’s like you’re obliged to do it. They act like it’s your job.
Shakespeare said “I hate ingratitude more in man than lying, vainness, babbling, drunkenness, or any taint of vice, whose strong corruption inhabits our frail blood.”
We need to find contentment and happiness in our lives in whatever God has given us. One pastor made it such a practice, that it even amazed his congregation; One Sunday morning the weather was so gloomy that one church member thought to himself, “Certainly the preacher won’t think of anything for which to thank God on a wretched day like this.” Much to his surprise, however, the pastor began by praying, “We thank Thee, O God, that it is not always like this.”
One of the toughest Christians that Satan has a hard time tripping up is the “Thankful Christian.”
There is a legend of a man who found the barn where Satan kept his seeds ready to be sown in the human heart, and on finding the seeds of discouragement more numerous than others, learned that those seeds could be made to grow almost anywhere. When Satan was questioned he reluctantly admitted that there was one place in which he could never get them to thrive. “And where is that?” asked the man. Satan replied sadly, “in the heart of a grateful man.”
Happy Thanksgiving & God bless,
